I Gave Remote Access to a Scammer

If a scammer controlled your computer through remote-access software, disconnect the device from the internet first.

Immediate Steps

1. Turn off WiFi or unplug ethernet.
2. Use another trusted device to change important passwords.
3. Uninstall remote access tools such as AnyDesk, TeamViewer, UltraViewer, or unknown apps.
4. Contact your bank if financial accounts were opened during the session.
5. Run a trusted antivirus scan before using the device again.

Warning Signs

• Fake Microsoft, Apple, bank, or antivirus support calls.
• Requests for gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.
• Pressure to keep the call secret.
